Lahore Qalandars to face an Indian Team in Namibia

Namibia: Lahore Qalandars and Indian domestic team Bengal have accepted the invitation. They will go up against each other in the league. The South African team is likely to be named soon as well. This is a 4 team tournament.

The Lahore Qalandars have accepted an offer to compete in Namibia’s planned Global T20 event. With the acceptance of this offer, a representative squad of Qalandars will face Bengal from India. Cricket Namibia will host the four-team competition, with Bengal already confirmed and Lahore Qalandars did accept in agreement. The South African team is also expected to be named soon.

This will be an opportunity for Pakistan and India to strengthen connections even more, as neither domestic team has been very active. The last time players from both countries met was in 2013, when the Faisalabad Foxes faced the Hyderabad Sunrisers. Misbah-ul-Haq, Saeed Ajmal, Shikhar Dhawan, and Parthiv Patel played in the game.

Acceptance of Invitation

Lahore Qalandar’s management accepted the invitation immediately. They have won the Pakistan Super League last season. The confidence of the team and management under the new young captaincy of Shaheen Shah Afridi is at its peak.

“The broadcasters for the tournament came before our president [Avishek Dalmiya] and invited us. We took the opportunity to play six-seven games before the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy [India’s domestic T20 tournament for men], because we can get to play against a World Cup team,” Das told ESPNcricinfo.

“The ambition is that there are several young players who are playing in local cricket in Bengal and performing fantastically with respect to T20s. So we are sending mostly those young guys so that we can make our team for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy,” he added.

Bengal has picked a 16-man squad for the competition, with Abhimanyu Easwaran named captain of the Indian team. The Bengal cricket team for the T20 competition in Namibia includes Shahbaz Ahmed, Ishan Porel, Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep, Writtick Chatterjee, and several new faces. Meanwhile, India will face Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2022 on August 28, with the competition beginning on August 27 in the UAE.
