Pakistan International Airlines played a very important role in the development of Skardu International Airport. However, in the past 2 years, the International flights were closed. On the other hand, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) operated five to six flights each day to Skardu airport, transporting hundreds of tourists to the scenic region.

It was a huge effort from PIA to promote tourism in the domestic region. The former Government also planned to launch helicopter services for Skardu and Gilgit to increase tourism.
