PIA role for International Airport
Pakistan International Airlines played a very important role in the development of Skardu International Airport. However, in the past 2 years, the International flights were closed. On the other hand, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) operated five to six flights each day to Skardu airport, transporting hundreds of tourists to the scenic region.
It was a huge effort from PIA to promote tourism in the domestic region. The former Government also planned to launch helicopter services for Skardu and Gilgit to increase tourism. However, they believed that Tourism is very important for the development of remote areas and eventually it will also increase the GDP of the country as well.
However, CAA Director General Khaqan Murtaza had said that the airport was ready to handle any international inbound flight. CAA has completed work on the infrastructure and other installations related to immigration at the Airport. Whereas, Skardu International Airport has been one of the busiest airports in the country last summer season.
