Nightingale of Sindh , Rubina Qureshi Died due to Cancer

A legendary classical Sindhi singer known as ‘Nightingale of Sindh’, Rubina Qureshi met her real creator after long battle with cancer on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, morning at the age of 81 in her Karachi’s residence.

Her family sources revealed that she had been suffering from cancer for last 2 years and had been in coma for the last 2 months. Rubina left behind her husband, Mustafa Qureshi a legendary film star, a son film actor Amir Qureshi and a daughter.

Veteran Singer was born on October 19, 1940 in Hyderabad. She started her career in radio station in 1960s and married to legendary film star Mustafa Qureshi in 1970

On her death, the Radio Pakistan said,

She started her career from Radio Pakistan Hyderabad and got married with legendary actor Mustafa Qureshi in September 1970. “Rubina Qureshi was popularly known as Nightingale of Sindh, she performed in Sindhi, Urdu, Punjabi and Saraiki languages.”

 “She led an active [bharpur] life, both when it came to her social life and professional career. Singer Rubina sang more than 1,000 songs. She was the first woman artist who took part in strengthening Pak-China relations. The late Z A Bhutto sent her to China where she sang in the Chinese language. She also went to Indonesia and Turkey to perform for her country.

said Mustafa Qureshi while interviewing a well-known newspaper.

She was awarded by “Qalandar Shahbaz” and “Khawaja Ghulam Fareed” awards because of her soulful services for Sufi music. Radio of Pakistan awarded her on 2012. On 14 august, 2021, government of Pakistan announced ‘Tamgha e Imtiaz’ for her legendary work.

She was laid to rest in the compound of Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s tomb after “Asr prayer” on Wednesday. Due to her worsened health condition, Rubina Qureshi could not even go to the Governor’s House to receive her Presidential Pride of Performance Award on March 23 which was received by her husband, Mustafa Qureshi.

PM Mr Shehbaz Sharif expressed his grief and sorrow over her death.
