Eighth Women International Film Festival Lights Up Islamabad

The eighth Women International Film Festival (WIFF) began in Islamabad on Saturday. Over two days, the event will feature 31 short and full-length films from various countries including Britain, Iran, France, Germany, and many more. This festival is a major boost to female directors in this competitive world.

The silver screen is shining a spotlight on female filmmakers as the Eighth Women International Film Festival (WIFF) kicks off in Islamabad. Moreover, this two-day celebration of cinema brings together international and Pakistani talent. This festival will significantly showcase a diverse range of stories told through film.

This year’s WIFF boasts an impressive lineup of 31 short and feature-length films. Submissions hail from a wide range of countries, including Britain, Iran, France, Germany, Ukraine, Spain, Lebanon, Egypt, Russia, Estonia, Poland, Japan, Mexico, Italy, Canada, Chile, Turkey and Argentina. Five films showcased at the festival were created by Pakistani filmmakers. However, these films include ‘Hum Awaaz’, ‘Made with Love’, ‘Prolific Hustling’, ‘Woman of Courage’, and ’10 more minutes.

The festival boasts a jury comprised of respected figures in the Pakistani film industry. Filmmaker Mehreen Jabbar, known for her powerful dramas, joins Usman Mukhtar and Marya Javed in selecting the winning films. The presence of these individuals adds prestige to the event and ensures a meticulous judging process. The festival is supported by the Spanish, German, French, and Ukrainian embassies.
