The national airline will operate weekly flights from Dubai to Skardu. The spokesman added that the Dubai to Skardu flight will depart to Islamabad for passenger convenience. Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has started direct flights between Karachi and Skardu after launching direct flights from Lahore in June. The first Lahore-Skardu flight operated on June 3.

Prime Minister Imran Khan declared Skardu Airport international in December 2021. It can’t reach its full potential due to the absence of suitable refueling facilities for passengers on international flights.

In addition, the Civil Aviation Authority has clarified that passengers flying to and from Skardu do not need a polio vaccination card.

Gilgit’s chief secretary told the airport to snuggle in a valley, home to beautiful lakes and fresh spring water. It will be operational for international flights this month. Furthermore, this airport in the Northern region can receive large jets such as Airbus A320.

Agreements are in place to meet fuel requirements for international flights from August 2023. The facility expects to inaugurate later this month.

PIA’s direct flight will reduce travel time and inconvenience for Travellers. It previously required connecting flights or overland travel to Skardu. In addition, direct flight boost tourism in the region, which will impact the local economy.
Officials pointed out that the launch of the direct route was a strategic decision by PIA, as it allowed the airline to expand its route network and access new markets. Officials also noted that the non-stop flight increased the airline’s revenue and improved its hyper-competitors in the overall market.
