A spectacular match between Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi took place before the tournament. In this match, Iftikhar Ahmed washed the fast bowler Wahab Riaz. In the last over, Iftikhar hit 6 sixes in 6 balls.
Iftikhar Ahmed has been in sensational form recently especially in T20 Cricket. Adding to the list of some of the special performances he has produced in the sport’s shortest format, was his innings on Sunday (February 5, 2023) against Peshawar Zalmi. While playing for the Quetta Gladiators in an exhibition match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
During his innings of an unbeaten 94 off 50, Iftikhar even achieved a remarkable feat as he smashed the 20th over of the innings being bowled by Wahab Riaz for six sixes, accumulating 36 runs in the over. Riding on the 32-year-old’s knock, Gladiators ended their innings at 184 runs at the end of 20 overs.
Ahmed batted at a magnificent strike rate of 161.39 in the tournament. He earned the ‘Ifti Mania’ tag after his destructive batting. ‘Ifti Mania’ was on display in Quetta earlier today. He lit up the Bugti Stadium in Quetta in the PSL Exhibition Match.
Nine men have previously hit the maximum number of maximums. Garry Sobers, Ravi Shastri, Herschelle Gibbs (the first in international cricket at the 2007 World Cup). Yuvraj Singh (at the inaugural World T20 off Stuart Broad), Ross Whiteley, Hazratullah Zazai, Leo Carter, Kieron Pollard, and Thisara Perera.
Hitting sixes is not a big deal in the shortest format of the game, i.e T20. However, hitting 6 sixes in a single over is a rare feat and only a handful of batters have been able to achieve this feat. With the PSL scheduled to start on 13th February, a PSL exhibition game is taking place before the start of season 8 of the tournament.
Babar Azam who captains Peshawar Zalmi opted to bowl first after winning the toss. The Zalmi’s were off to a good start with Wahab Riaz picking up early wickets to destabilize their opposition. However, Quetta came back strongly in the latter part of the game to post a competitive total for their opponents.
