According to the Palestinian Authority, Al Jazeera reporter Shireen Abu Akleh killed by a sniper bullet while in the occupied West Bank during an Israeli raid. Israeli officials said that could only be determined by identifying the shooter.
In critical condition, she rushed to a hospital in Jenin. Where she has pronounced dead shortly after, at 7:15 am (4:15 GMT), according to the Palestinian health ministry.
Who was Shireen ABU Alkeh – Her efforts?
Her career as a journalist on television was long and distinguished. She became a journalist in her twenties. In the early 2000s, when the second intifada occurred in Palestine, she became extremely well known for her work with Al Jazeera, the Arabic channel. Arabic-speaking audiences watched her on television all over the world. Especially Palestinians watched her.
Several journalists were standing with Al Jazeera reporter Shireen when she killed. She wore a press vest.
Abu Akleh was shot in the head, according to the chair of the medicine department at al-Najah University in Nablus. Based on an order from the public prosecution, her body was transported for an autopsy.
Neutralized two terrorists
As The Israeli army initially claimed it “neutralized two terrorists,” then changed its narrative to claim Palestinian fighters were in the area as a damage control strategy. The media reported that Israeli forces were responsible for the killing of Abu Akleh.
This is similar to the Israeli army’s killing of 11-year-old Palestinian Muhammed Al-Durra in 2000.
Several brave journalists, including Abu Akleh, captured the events on camera. As well as the Israeli army, the Palestinian forces nearby claimed that Al-Durra killed by bullets fired by his father.
In light of Abu Akleh being shot by an Israeli sniper in the head, Palestinian journalists who were next to the victim, including Al-Samedi, who is currently in hospital, rebutted the Israeli narrative. The body of Abu Akleh prepared for the funeral by Palestinian priests after he died.
The body was carried by thousands of Palestinians, wrapped in a Palestinian flag and with her vest on her, into the Jenin refugee camp. She will be buried in her hometown of Jerusalem. Millions of Arabs across the Middle East and North Africa are shocked and outraged at Israel’s killing of Abu Akleh. Which has sent shockwaves and condemnations across the region.
