Italian Fashion Icon Roberto Cavalli Dies at 83

Renowned fashion icon Roberto Cavalli has bid farewell to the world at the age of 83. Famous for his striking animal prints adored by celebrities, Cavalli’s legacy in the fashion world is immense. Reports from his company reveal that he had been battling illness for some time. Moreover, he leaves behind his partner, Sandra Bergman Nilsson, and six children.

Sergio Azzolari, the CEO of Roberto Cavalli, expressed condolences on Instagram, emphasizing Cavalli’s enduring influence. According to Italian news agency ANSA, Cavalli breathed his last at his home in Florence on Friday.

Cavalli, who founded his eponymous label in the early 1970s, rose to prominence with his bold and sensual aesthetic. His signature use of animal prints, particularly leopard, earned him the nickname “The King of Leopard Print.”

However, Cavalli, known for his flamboyant personality, often spotted with a cigar and tinted glasses, infused vibrant colors and intricate patchwork in his designs, which often revealed his artistic flair. Beyond fashion, he ventured into real estate and gained fame for the iconic “Just Cavalli Cafe,” a hotspot in Milan frequented by the fashion elite.

Worldwide Condolences

Despite stylistic differences, fellow designer Giorgio Armani paid tribute to Cavalli’s creativity. He hails him as a true artist capable of turning fantasy into alluring attire. Notable among his designs is Cindy Crawford’s iconic walk down the Spanish Steps in Rome, adorned in a tiger-faced slip dress by Cavalli.

Moreover, Fausto Puglisi, the creative director of Roberto Cavalli, bid farewell with heartfelt words, promising Cavalli’s name to live on as a beacon of inspiration.

The Florence-based fashion group, owned by Auriel Investment SA, was rescued in 2019 by Hussain Sajwani of Dubai. Cavalli’s final journey will be marked by a funeral in Florence on Monday, as reported by Italian media.
