World’s Oldest Man, Juan Vicente Perez, Dies at 114

Venezuelan man, Juan Vicente Perez, who held the title of the world’s oldest living person according to Guinness World Records, passed away this week at the age of 114. However, just two months shy of his 115th birthday, Perez leaves behind a remarkable legacy of longevity.

Juan Vicente Perez, from Venezuela, known as the oldest man in the world, passed away at the remarkable age of 114. Meanwhile, he passed away just before reaching his 115th birthday.

Mr. Perez, born on May 27, 1909, was recognized by Guinness World Records as the oldest living man back when he was 112 years and 253 days old. He credited his long life to a simple routine of hard work, resting during holidays, going to bed early, and having a daily glass of strong liquor. Moreover, he also mentioned his faith in God as a contributing factor.

Throughout his life, Mr. Perez was married to Ediofina del Rosario Garcia for 60 years and had 11 children. He has 42 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Meanwhile, Perez went on to become a sheriff and was responsible for resolving land and family disputes, while still working in agriculture.

He lived through significant historical events, including two World Wars and the COVID pandemic.

Condolences

Freddy Bernal, the governor of Tachira, where Mr. Perez lived, expressed deep sadness over his passing, describing him as a symbol of goodness and wisdom.

Moreover, President Nicholas Maduro tweeted: “Juan Vicente Perez Mora has transcended into eternity at 114 years old, from the town of El Cobre he gave Venezuela the Guinness Record for being the oldest man in the world.

“I send my hug and condolences to his family and all the people of El Cobre, Tachira state. May God receive him in his holy glory!”

However, the title of the world’s oldest person is now likely to be assumed by Gisaburo Sonobe of Japan, who is 112 years old, pending confirmation from his family.

Perez’s passing marks the end of an era. He was a testament to the human capacity for a long and fulfilling life.
