Multan Sultans secured their spot in the Pakistan Super League final for the fourth consecutive time with an impressive seven-wicket victory over Peshawar Zalmi in the qualifier match held on Thursday. The game played in Karachi, Pakistan, saw Multan dominating from the start. The Pakistan Super League PSL final is scheduled to take place on March 18, 2024, in Karachi.

After winning the toss, Multan chose to bowl first, restricting Peshawar to a modest total of 146-7. Peshawar’s batting struggled against both pace and spin, with key players like Saim Ayub and Mohammad Haris falling early. Despite a valiant effort from captain Babar Azam, who scored 46 runs, Peshawar found it challenging to accelerate the scoring rate, managing only 38 runs in the final five overs.

In response, Multan’s opening pair of Yasir Khan and Mohammad Rizwan set the tone with a solid partnership of 61 runs. Yasir Khan played a key role, scoring 54 runs before spinner Mehran Mumtaz dismissed him. However, Multan’s chase was never in doubt as Usman Khan, continuing his exceptional form, remained unbeaten on 36 runs to guide his team to victory with ease.

Peshawar, missing the services of Naveen-ul-Haq due to international commitments, struggled to contain Multan’s batting lineup, ultimately falling short in defending their total.

Consistently Multan

With this win, Multan Sultans have set up a showdown in the final, while Peshawar Zalmi will have another chance to reach the final by facing the winner of the eliminator match between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators on Saturday.

This victory sets the stage for the Sultans to exorcise their recent final demons potentially. They’ll be eager to claim their second PSL title after losing the PSL finals in the last two editions to Lahore Qalandars. The winner of the eliminator match between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators will determine their opponent in the final.
