Zainab Abbas Departs India Herself Or Deported By Officials?

Zainab Abbas, a sports presenter from Pakistan was going to be part of the World Cup 2023. She had to leave India because of some trouble. A lawyer in India complained about things she said on social media a long time ago, saying they were against Hindu beliefs.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has refuted claims that Pakistani sports presenter Zainab Abbas was deported from India. Where she was part of the World Cup 2023 broadcast team. The ICC stated that her departure from the country was due to personal reasons.

According to ICC official C. Rajshekhar Rao, this clarification comes in light of media reports suggesting security concerns after a complaint was filed in Delhi last week. The complaint accused Abbas of posting derogatory tweets targeting the Hindu faith in the past. Based on screenshots of posts from an account bearing her name on micro-blogging site X (formerly Twitter) in 2014.

Reports have been unable to independently verify the authenticity of the tweets mentioned in the complaint. Attempts have also been made to contact Abbas for her response.

One of her tweets, confirmed to be from her official account, was cited in the complaint for its pro-Kashmir content.

Indian news website OPIndia reported that on Oct 4. Lawyer Vineet Jindal filed a cyber complaint against Abbas with the New Delhi police’s cyber cell. The complaint sought the registration of a first information report (FIR) against the presenter under various sections of the law for making disparaging remarks about Hinduism and anti-India statements.

In a post on X, the advocate also demanded the removal of the presenter from the list of World Cup presenters. The report stated that “anti-Bharat people are not welcome in Bharat.”

On Oct 7, Vineet shared a redacted version of another letter he sent to the Board of Cricket Control of India Secretary Jay Shah. The letter contained the recipient’s name and the subject, seeking action against the presenter for her alleged anti-India remarks.

Meanwhile, reports, citing unnamed sources, reported that Abbas “categorically denied the allegations” and asserted that she was “unjustly targeted.”

Sources close to the presenter also emphasized that she had been falsely accused. Her past social media activity was “taken out of context” and “unrelated to her work as a presenter.”
