On Wednesday, a 14-year-old student opened fire at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, killing two students and two teachers, and injuring nine others. Authorities quickly identified the shooter as Colt Gray, who used a semiautomatic rifle in attack. Deputies at Georgia School confronted Gray, and he surrendered without resistance. He now faces charges as an adult.
The victims, two 14-year-old students, Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, along with teachers Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Christina Irimie, 53, lost their lives in shooting. Local authorities confirmed that all nine injured individuals are expected to recover. Investigators believe Gray acted alone, though his motives remain unclear.
Last year, FBI had investigated Colt Gray for making online threats about committing a georgia school shooting. However, officials did not arrest him at the time due to insufficient evidence. Recent tragedy has once again raised questions about effectiveness of monitoring such threats.
