Golden Globe Awards 2023…. A star-studded affair

The 80th edition of the Golden Globe Awards took place yesterday. The event was full of glitz as they embraced many emerging actors and shows. Indian Movie RRR’s “Naato Naato” won its first international awards and netizens are going bonkers.

The Golden Globe Awards were handed out Tuesday night. With The Fabelmans and The Banshees of Inisherin taking top honors on the film side. However, Abbott Elementary, House of the Dragon, and The White Lotus among the big TV winners.

Quinta Brunson, Tyler James Williams, Angela Bassett, Ke Huy Quan, Colin Farrell, Jennifer Coolidge, Steven Spielberg, Michelle Yeoh, Julia Garner, Zendaya, Guillermo del Toro, Cate Blanchett and Austin Butler were among the individual winners.

The 80th edition of the ceremony took place at the Beverly Hilton. Moreover, aired live on NBC and Peacock, and was hosted by Jerrod Carmichael.

In the musical categories, composer Justin Hurwitz was recognized for his Babylon score. While best original song went to Naatu Naatu from the Indian action film RRR. The tune held off competition from pop heavyweights Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and Rihanna.

RRR is being represented at the Golden Globe Awards by its director and stars. SS Rajamouli, Jr NTR, and Ram Charan who is accompanied by his wife Upasana Kamineni. Jr NTR and Ram Charan play freedom fighters Komaram Bheem and Alluri Seetharamaraju in the period drama, set in the British-occupied India in the 1920s. The cast includes Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn as well as British actors Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody, and Olivia Morris. The film has collected ₹1,200 crore globally. RRR has also submitted itself for consideration in various Oscar categories.

The awards return to the Hollywood mainstream after making internal reforms following criticism of its allegedly racist and sexist voting practices. Last year’s Golden Globes were boycotted by NBC. Which broadcasts the show, and many of Hollywood’s big stars led by Tom Cruise who returned his three Globes.
