Finally, FATF removes Pakistan from the grey list

FATF has finally removed Pakistan from the grey list. The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has recently decided to remove Pakistan’s name from the grey list. FATF has been monitoring Pakistan for the last 4 to 5 years. After extensive monitoring and Pakistan’s struggles to fight terrorism, they have decided to remove Pakistan’s name. The country has been on the “grey list” of FATF since 2018. The reason for putting Pakistan on the list was “strategic counter-terrorist financing-related deficiencies”. The country has been struggling to get off the list ever since. However, recently the country made progress and Pakistan was able to come out of the list. FATF APG: Pakistan cleared 22 more FATF recommendations.

On June 4, FATF in it follow-up report against Pakistan accepted 22 more recommendations got compliant making it to the total of 31 of 40 recommendation largely compliant. FATF over the anti-money laundering and counter terrorism assessments, announced that Pakistan has compliant on 22 more of the points recommended by the FATA APG body. FATF APG body issued a follow-up report stating the countable improvements and measures are carried out by Pakistan against the allegation in financing terrorism financing and money laundering, finally making it to the total of 31 of the 40 recommendations followed.
