First Apollo mission to the Moon 

First humans to land on the moon were Neil Armstrong (1930-2012) and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin (1930-). Armstrong walked on the moon about six-and-a-half hours later. The Apollo 11 mission occurred eight years after President John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) announced a national goal of landing a man on the moon by the end of the 1960s. Armstrong famously said, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." When he took his first step, Armstrong said, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." In 1972, Apollo 17 made its final trip to the moon.
