This decision comes after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif invited Riaz to his official residence following a viral video showing him selling jalebis to support his family.
Riaz, once a promising player, found himself without a job when his former club, K-Electric, disbanded its football team. The lack of financial support forced him to shift from the football field to a street-side stall in Hangu, where he made a living preparing jalebis. The video of him working in difficult conditions gained widespread attention, prompting a response from PFL.
PFL Chairman Farhan Junejo announced the financial award and a position for Riaz, emphasizing that Pakistan has many skilled footballers who lack opportunities. “Muhammad Riaz is a talented player who has represented Pakistan internationally. It is our responsibility to support such players so their skills do not go unnoticed,” Junejo stated.
PFL’s Programs
Along with financial assistance, PFL has committed to providing Riaz with international-standard training to help him regain his place in professional football. The league also plans to extend support to other players facing similar struggles, aiming to create a strong football structure in the country.
Expressing his gratitude, Riaz thanked PFL and its chairman for recognizing his struggles. He expressed hope that his return to the sport would help prevent other players from facing similar hardships. “I am thankful for this opportunity and will work to ensure that no footballer is left behind,” he said.
