80 Hostages Rescued After Terrorists Hijack Train in Bolan

Security forces rescued at least 80 hostages from terrorists who had hijacked the Jaffar Express in Bolan, Balochistan. Reports suggest that the terrorists are in contact with leaders outside Pakistan and are using civilians as shields. Moreover, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur expressed concern and urged swift rescue efforts.

Security forces successfully rescued at least 80 hostages after terrorists hijacked the Jaffar Express in Balochistan’s Bolan district on Tuesday. Among those freed were 53 men, 26 women, and 11 children, according to security sources. The operation to secure the remaining passengers is ongoing.

The train, traveling from Quetta to Peshawar, carried over 400 passengers when it was attacked. The attackers detonated explosives on the railway track before storming the train and opening fire, injuring several, including the driver. Moreover, the train was brought to a halt near a tunnel in a mountainous region, making rescue efforts difficult.

Security personnel surrounded the area and engaged in heavy gunfire with the terrorists. Reports indicate that the attackers are in contact with their leaders outside Pakistan and are using civilians as shields. Due to the challenging terrain, forces are proceeding carefully to avoid casualties.

High Alert In The Province

Emergency measures were swiftly put in place. Authorities mobilized security forces and dispatched a relief train to the site. Hospitals in Quetta and Sibi were placed on high alert, and additional medical staff were called in to handle potential casualties. A dedicated information desk was also set up at Quetta Railway Station for updates on the situation.

Government officials strongly condemned the attack. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi called for strict action against those responsible. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, denounced the targeting of innocent civilians, labeling it an act of cowardice. Moreover, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur expressed deep concern for the passengers’ safety, urging for their immediate rescue.

Security sources revealed that misleading content about the attack is circulating on social media. Certain foreign platforms are reportedly spreading false narratives to create confusion. Officials have urged citizens to rely on credible news sources.

Balochistan has witnessed a rise in militant activity, with recent statistics showing an increase in attacks. January 2025 recorded a 42% spike in such incidents, underscoring the ongoing security challenges in the region.

Conversely, rescue operations continue as forces aim to free the remaining hostages and restore normalcy to rail operations in the province.
