The International Cricket Council (ICC) has warned the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). ICC is stern regarding its refusal to display ‘Pakistan’ on the Indian team kits for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. According to reports, the ICC emphasized that all participating teams must include the host nation’s name in the tournament’s logo on their jerseys.
The Champions Trophy is set to take place in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9. Due to political tensions, India’s matches will be played in Dubai under a hybrid model. The model was approved by the ICC, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and the BCCI.
Despite the compromise to host Indian matches in Dubai, the BCCI has reportedly resisted including the word ‘Pakistan’ on its team kits. It also cites sensitivities linked to strained diplomatic relations between the two countries. The ICC, however, has dismissed this stance and reiterated that compliance with tournament rules is non-negotiable.

“It is the responsibility of every team to add the tournament logo, which includes the host nation’s name, to their jerseys. All teams are obligated to follow this rule,” an ICC official stated.
Unnecessary Hurdles
The BCCI’s resistance has sparked controversy and drawn criticism from cricketing circles. The PCB expressed surprise at the Indian board’s actions, accusing it of politicizing the sport. “It is shocking to see the BCCI creating unnecessary hurdles,” a PCB official said.
Questions also remain about whether Indian captain Rohit Sharma will attend the Champions Trophy opening ceremony in Pakistan. The BCCI has yet to confirm his participation, adding another layer of uncertainty.
