Instagram just launched a new video editing app called “Edits”! It’s packed with cool features like Easy editing, Creative tools, and Share your creations. Moreover, it is perfect for anyone who wants to make awesome videos on their phone. Download it now and start creating!
Instagram has launched a new video editing app called Edits, designed to provide creators with advanced tools to enhance their content. The announcement comes shortly after the US banned CapCut, a popular editing app owned by ByteDance, the company behind TikTok.
Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, shared the news, highlighting the platform’s commitment to empowering creators. He stated, “Today we’re announcing a new app called ‘Edits,’ for those of you who are passionate about making videos on your phone. A lot is going on right now, but no matter what happens, it’s our job to provide the best possible tools for creators.”
The app is now available for preorder on the iOS store and it will be soon available on Android devices. Mosseri mentioned that the app is more focused on the requirements of professional video creators rather than casual video makers.

Key Features of Edits
Edits offers a comprehensive set of tools, making it more than just a basic editing app. Creators can:
- Use the Idea Hub for inspiration and organizing video ideas.
- Collaborate with friends or other creators by sharing drafts for feedback.
- Create professional-quality videos with enhanced camera settings and advanced editing options.
The app supports videos up to 10 minutes long in 1080p resolution and provides analytics to track engagement, including skip rates and interactions from followers and non-followers.

Available Soon
Edits is available for pre-order on the Apple App Store and will officially launch on March 13, 2025, with an Android version coming soon.

Why Edits Matters
With CapCut no longer accessible in the US, Edits fills the gap for creators needing a reliable editing tool. Its seamless integration with Instagram simplifies the process of making, editing, and sharing content.
This move also reflects Meta’s strategic approach to seizing opportunities. Similar to how Instagram Reels emerged after TikTok faced challenges in certain markets, Edits aims to capitalize on the absence of CapCut.
In recent years, Instagram has consistently tried to replicate TikTok’s success and chase the app’s astronomical growth in short-form video. In 2020, Instagram introduced Reels, a near-identical copy of TikTok’s signature short-form video format. Since then, Reels has become one of the most popular features on the app.
